What does the BESS scale value mean?

The BESS value(Brubaker Edge Sharpness Scale) is a standardized measurement for quantitatively determining cutting edge sharpness. The measurement is based on the principle of cutting tests under defined loads: a calibrated test medium is exposed to the cutting edge while the force required in grams (g) to completely cut through the test material is measured. The scale is inversely proportional to sharpness: a lower BESS value indicates greater cutting edge sharpness, as less force is required for the cutting process.
